Sunday Best: Blue Valentine

Just when I thought that Spring was really here and it was safe to start planning my Summer wardrobe, Winter hit back with an icy bite. Earlier this week I pinned my favourite Summer looks on Pinterest which btw, I totally love - I was never very good at Tumblr but I'm good at Pinterest so if you want to see all the silly things that I like you can follow me on there. My mind was on Summer... chambray, bicycle rides, straw hats and picnics with ice tea.

Chambray
Straw Boater - Vintage, Satchel - Vintage, Chambray Dress - Zara,
Clogs - Topshop, Coat - Thrifted, Brooches - Accessorize.

Needless to say, I was delighted when I found this straw boater in Oxfam though a little less delighted at the price tag - £14.99. When did charity shopping become so expensive? However, my friend pointed out that it would be twice that from Topshop and there was no way that I was letting a vintage boater pass me by so I bought it and I'm very glad that I did. Expect to see alot more of it from now on.

I had, albeit a little prematurely, planned to wear it with a sheer blouse and light mac but Mother Nature choose to send a gust of icy wind in our direction and it was far too chilly that sort of frippery so instead I choose this dress from Zara. If in doubt, just dress a bit like Alexa Chung, right?

P.S. Jessie was so kind as to name SGAPFF, Blog of the Month on her own beautiful The Velvet Bow. If you don't already read it, then you should check it out now. I promise that you won't be disappointed.

  2. charity shops are definitely getting more and more expensive all the time, it's a little frustrating until you put each item in context, your hat (gorgeous by the way) would definitely have been double the price in topshop! i absolutely love your denim dress and brooches. so pretty. x

  3. I adore your hat, I managed to find one for £3 in a charity shop last summer and I can't wait to whip it out again once the sun returns. I really like your outfit too, the dress looks great on you and your bike is beautiful!

  5. Your photos are always so gorgeous! I love your dress & boater. I agree though, that charity shops are getting more expensive as vintage wear is becoming trendier & trendier. Le sigh.

  6. Lovely outfit, and lovely bike! Mudguards are what you need for urban cycling. As a charity shop volunteer - Oxfam, in fact - I believe the pricing in most Oxfams reflects the quality. Especially in my Oxfam, of course!

  9. Loooove this outfit and your gorgeous brooches! Also, that park looks so amazing, haha.
I completely agree with charity shops becoming more expensive, but I guess because wearing second-hand clothing is trendier now... ahh! At least the charities are getting something more out of their stuff, haha. xx

  10. So, you look awesome!

But let me just have a little charity shop rant... I KNOW! I thought it was maybe because I was in Oxfam in central London, but that's ridiculous! I was also in one the other day that had See by Chloe jeans (second-hand) for £40... wtf???

Anyway, good call on the boater anyway! But still, that's ridiculous... (I hope charity shopping goes out soon)...

  11. I love everything about this post. You have put me in the mood for spring..I need to get a bike, and another boater hat! I am so glad that your friend convinced you to get this one because it looks so good on you. Yes, a little bit expensive for a charity shop but so worth it!! I love your dress too. You are such a gem. I saw your feature on Jessies blog and was so happy. You are very well deserving of that! xoxo

  15. Dang, that is pricey for a charity shop... It's an amazing hat, though! I love your little pins, and the chambray dress is amazing! I just got a new one that I'm excited to wear. :D

  16. I've noticed used/thrift haunts either becoming more expensive or increasingly picked over. It's definitely a bummer but it just means looking for new haunts or popping in more frequently?

Lovely outfit and that bicycle is simply magnificent! The basket adds such a nice touch. Makes me want to invest in a bicycle of my own soon.

  20. I think that was the most shocking bit for me moving to the UK from Canada, just how insanely expensive the charity shops are..... although that boater frames your face perfectly you did have to get it. Simply darling.

  21. The weather is so unpredictable. We have sun outside and at least 5 degrees celsius, but it's already said that there'll be ice and snow again next week, where is spring? I'm curious to see your summer outfit with that boater!

  22. You look so lovely! The charity shops near where I live are getting seriously pricey too, but I'm sure I would've snapped up that boater as well, I've been looking for one on Ebay but I'm never too sure in case it doesn't fit... I've got major bike- love too! x

  23. In Austria it's getting warmer but it's still fresh in the morning.
I hope that the weather will get even better because we are going to fly to Edinburgh for a week in April. I am looking forward!

  24. Urgh yes, expensive charity shops have put me off charity shopping. Except for my one favourite cheapcheap one for furniture and house stuff. I looove your bike, if only bikes didn't get nicked from outside my work so easily (even with 2 really strong locks on them!) i would consider buying a bike.

  25. Kaz - I bought it last month but it was in the sale so I don't know if you would find it again.

Helen - I always get so nervous about leaving it where I can't see it, even with two locks. If only people would refrain from taking what is not theirs!
