ReplyDeleteBest thing about Britain? Is tea and victoria sponge cake too obvious? xx
How sweet ! Well, if this cute telescope isn't the best thing about Britain, I'd go for drizzling afternoons spent in an oak-paneled room, full of dusty nooks, fill to the ceiling with old and slightly musty books, with a cup of strong tea brewed in a chipped tea-pot in one hand, and a particularly battered copy of a Study in Scarlet in the other, relaxing to the sound of some 1960s British band while munching on some delicious scones (with jam).
ReplyDeleteIs my best of British too cliché? Definitely is!
In any case. I'm gonna head over to Wallpaper Rose this minute.
My favourite thing about Britain, to date, was the Royal Wedding. Britain really came together, so i suppose it's really our pride more than anything else!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful necklace too!

Best thing about Britain? Definitely the music talent it has produced; Radiohead, The Smiths, Blur, The Beatles, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel! So many of my favourite musicians are British!

The best thing about Britain is our heritage, the amazing world changing inventions from our ancestors, the fact that we have constantly been the originators of breaking down barriers in terms of equality, (first western power to abolish slavery, equal voting rights for women etc)
ReplyDeleteand of course our immaculate but wonderfully eccentric sense of style....too much? ha

Best thing about Britain: all things quintessentially British, such as scones and jam (tea parties in general), tea itself (iconic drink i think you'll agree), and a victoria sponge (naturally). X
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say the weather, I know it rains a lot and it snows and we're not prepared and its windy and our weathers all over the place but I think it makes us take advantage of those few really amazing hot sunny days rather than wasting them and of course on sunny days theres trips to the beach, ice creams, tea and cake and lots of very happy but very silly sunburnt people!

What a lovely necklace! To my mind, the best things in Britain are West End muicals. And if you are ready to compromise with the day, you can get real bargains :).
ReplyDeleteThe British accent, the kind people, London, English country, Agatha Christie and Harry Potter!! I wish I was born English!
ReplyDeletesofiapff@hotmail.com

ReplyDeletek.hilllines@gmail.com
Best thing about Britain has to be the tiny villages that are somehow remote and antiquated despite being 30 minutes out of London. I was lucky enough to live in one for three months!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower of Wallpaper Rose as well!
The beaches, the wildlife, the fish and chips!

What a treasure and how did I miss Wallpaper Rose?! Beauty.
ReplyDeleteThe things that to me that are the Best of British would be chips on a grey windy beach, dapper chaps and the never ending politeness; not wanting to make a fuss - keeping our chins up. I saw a news report once a man caught in the London bombings he had blood pouring from his head but very composed gave a full report of his experience. Then politely asked if he could go back to the ambulance. Legend.

The best thing about Britain has to be a good old cup of builders tea. Strong and no sugar in a nice mug :) I have about eight cups a day! I even went to a whiskey distillery and managed to come away with tea bags instead.....
ReplyDeletelp274@st-andrews.ac.uk
Since moving back to the States, one of the tings I miss the most are the "chippies". I love me some fish and chips!
ReplyDeletecfurmanchin{at}gmail{dot}com
It's so cute and I can't believe it actually works, I love it!
ReplyDeleteTheir blog is lovely, I'm happy to follow.
The first thing that comes to my mind if I think of Britain is with no doubt the emotionally powerful works of 19th century english literature. The Brontë sisters, miss Austen, Lewis Carrol, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.. oh they brightened up so many rainy afternoons in my life :)
My favorite thing about Britain... is Edinburgh. From its tiny tea houses, castles, winding wynds, gardens, and more, I could not love this city any more than I already do!

My favourite thing about Britain? Misty mornings. No matter where you go, they always look amazing. Faintly glowing street lamps through the fog like a Dickens novel in London or the mysterious, eerie haze you get in the countryside like Wuthering Heights! Nothing is prettier, even if it IS a little soggy sometimes!
ReplyDeleteOops, ditsy moment.
ReplyDeleteEmail is temhota_demon@hotmail.com
For as much as some make fun of Britain's typical "mind your manners" approach to things, I honestly think it's one of my favourite things about this country, and something I really miss whenever I'm away. Life isn't the same without an orderly queue and a sheepish over-apology when bumping into someone in the street, is it?
ReplyDeletethis is possibly the most darling thing i've seen all week. i love it! i have never been to britain as much as i would love to, but i think the best things are either the scenery -- it's just beautiful -- or the people. i've seen, met, and chatted with some of the most amazing british beauties.
ReplyDeleteThe view from my window in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland. X
ReplyDeleteannadingwall@aol.com
Ahh how lovely! My favourite thing about Britain is the seasons - I love that every few months the country changes colour completely, from green to red and gold to white. And I love looking forward to the next season - ahh summer barbecues, ahh cosy winter fires!
ReplyDeletewrappedupwithstring@googlemail.com
I'm going to have to be very typical and say tea and scones, but you've got to love it!!!

ReplyDeletehttp://scr.im/viivi

ReplyDeletemy Mum's freshly baked scones that she makes when she feels like it - smothered in home made jam!!
megwynne@hotmail.co.uk
Best thing about Britain? People's sense of humour, the unpredictable weather (makes me appreciate the 5 minutes of sunshine), the architecture, the literature, the baking, oh and the clothes. :)
ReplyDeletejac_thain@hotmail.com
so cute! i love it!. I think the best things about Britain are the following; Harry Potter (naturally!), Wimbledon, the patriotic side to people that comes out so rarely that when it does it's a beautiful thing, and of course the range of accents! Lizzy x
ReplyDeleteBest thing about Britain? The flag- i think every item of clothing i've seen with the British flag on it i love.. also the union jack features in Australia's flag, so i've got to love it ;)
ReplyDeleteElisa Travaglione

i think the acceptance of tea is the best thing. i still get weird looks when i want to drink tea. everyone should drink it!
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with Britain when I was in Bourton-on-the-water. I went to a small tearoom there and tasted my very first scone with jam and clotted cream. Quite delicious.
ReplyDeleteSo for me it's the pastry and good food.
I can't resist British music from the 60's either, The Kinks must be my all time favourite band.
I also love how friendly people are.
(oh man, I can't choose, too many good things)
phara_elsen@hotmail.com
The best thing about Britain? Well that is tough... Looks like I'm going to have to be honest and go with the first thing that popped into my head: Britain is the homeland of Harry Potter!

I think the best thing about Britain is the delightful eccentricity that pervades everyday life. This is especially noticeable in fashion, where there is a daring "anything goes" attitude. Everyday I see examples of this British quirkiness and it never fails to bring a smile to my face!
ReplyDeletegrainne.r@hotmail.com
The best thing about Britain? Earl Grey tea by far. I can't imagine life without it!

Shut up no way Jose!!!! I NEED that. My vision is slightly deteriorating, but I don't want to get contacts or glasses...so I could just use this to fill in the gaps in my vision! You know, like if I can't read something on the board in class I'll just whip out my miniature telescope. Don't think I wouldn't. I have a pen necklace and I use it all the time!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for turning me on to Wallpaper Rose's blog, it's awesome. I'm following her now too.
