If there is one thing that I never expected to make an appearance on this blog, it is an outfit inspired by 90's fashion. More specifically an outfit inspired by a late 90's teen drama set in New England - Dawson's Creek. When I was about 14, I was pretty obsessed with Dawson's Creek. I would record every episode and watch them over and over taking mental notes of Joey's outfits so I could attempt to recreate them.
A few rain Sunday's past, I found myself watching old reruns and cringing over how ridiculous the show really is and more importantly just how awful the characters look. Only somehow it must have snuck into my subconscious because not long after I dug out an old pair of dungaree shorts and with a few snips and stitches turned them into a dungaree dress. I've been wearing them ever since but was only when I was editing the images that I remembered owning a similar such garment during my infatuation with Miss Potter. Only then I'm pretty sure that I wore it with a headscarf and gauzy blouse... Cringe!
Blouse - Orla Kiely for Uniqlo, Dungaree Dress - Thrifted, Ballet Pumps - Le Bunny Bleu,
Bag, Brooch & Sweater - Vintage, Sunglasses - H&M.

I'm glad Dawson's Creek actually stayed in you subconsciously because I like this preppy outfit. I don't think I've worn dungarees in over a decade, but I love them.
ReplyDeleteI used to be obsessed with Dawson's Creek too & I watched an episode the other day & realised how 90s & cheesy is was ha :)
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit though, the dungaree dress really suits you! I've been after one for a while so I might have to find some to DIY!

Ohhh Dawson's Creek, I totally wanted to marry Pacey! Definitely a mega-cheesy show though. I love this outfit, the 90s are definitely having a fashion moment lately. x
ReplyDeleteI like 90s fashion. It's a bit on the baggy side but it's interesting. Dawson's creek was so cheesy I agree especially Joey and Dawson, those two made me want to hurl everytime they spoke haha. Great outfit. Overalls are pretty popular now with little kids.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Dawson's Creek!! I love your sun glasses! :D

ReplyDeleteI lovvvve the dungaree dress. I was obsessed with dungarees when I was about 13, and I've been wanting some dungaree shorts for ages!
ReplyDeleteDawson's Creek was genius :D Such embarrassing lines and situations, yet I adored it and recorded every single episode too - I remember my friends even made me a mixtape with the soundtrack at some point! Omg..
ReplyDeleteAnd when I saw it on tv recently, it brought me back to those days when I was at school and I wish I could travel in time to visit one of those days again :)

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone! x
DeleteI was never a fan of Dawson's Creek for some reason, I was more into Roswell, the alien thing.. You look lovely though, the print on the blouse is fab. xx

Haha Dawson's Creek - oh boy, I used to love this series too! But you're right, watchign it now you think it's total crap (I had the same effect with the Power Rangers some years ago btw).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love that you put together a 90s inspired outfit, you look so cute with the dungaree dress :)
omg Cait, Dawon's Creek is still one of my favourite shows, Pacey was my fave! It's so cheesy and I love how no 15 year old has ever acted like them but it's such a classic. My boyf bought me the box set last year so I gotta re-watch it!

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteWhat's up, just wanted to tell you, I loved this post? It just so very helpful. Keep on posting!
I love the look!
ReplyDeleteYou look really cute! I loved Dawkins creek. The first serious was amazing and I used to tape every episode. I recently found series 1 on DVD in a charity shop and forced my husband to watch the first couple of episodes! The lines in it are so bad but it'll always hold a special place in my heart. X
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me, have you seen that TV series on E4 called Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23? It's rather funny, and James Van Der Beek is in it playing himself and getting women just because he was Dawson.
